Costa Rica’s Public Procurement Directorate Wins International Award for Training in Innovative Public Procurement

The Public Procurement Directorate (DCoP) of Costa Rica’s Ministry of Finance has been awarded the II Ruta CPI Prize in the category “CPI Training and the Bootcamp for Implementing Innovative Public Procurement: What Should I Know?” The award, presented by Diego Portales University (UDP), the Inter-American Network on Government Procurement (RICG), the Organization of American States (OAS), and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), recognizes the country’s efforts to train public officials in the area of Innovative Public Procurement (CPI).

DCoP’s training program aims to build capacity among public sector officials by focusing on the adoption of concepts and tools related to innovative procurement. This year’s edition featured participation from 22 countries, including Andorra, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Spain, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

Luis Antonio Molina Chacón, Vice Minister of Expenditures, emphasized that this award reflects Costa Rica’s educational culture—one that goes beyond traditional training to embrace continuous improvement, digital tools, and interdisciplinary professional development.
