The General Directorate of Public Procurement (DGCP) of the Dominican Republic has launched the country’s first Public Procurement Community, aimed at fostering dialogue and the exchange of best practices among government purchasing units. This initiative seeks to ensure transparency and contribute to public well-being through procurement processes that are better aligned with citizens’ needs.

During a gathering attended by 260 procurement officers from central government, local authorities, and public hospitals, DGCP Director General Carlos Pimentel explained that the initiative—developed with support from the World Bank—provides a space for active listening, experience-sharing, and teamwork. The event emphasized the importance of ongoing interaction between the regulatory body and operational units to help shape policies and regulations that guarantee efficient and transparent public procurement.

The community encourages participation and collaborative work among procurement professionals while fostering reflection on current regulations in order to drive necessary improvements to the procurement system. Over the course of two days, World Bank consultants shared their expertise with participants, who committed to exercising people-centered, service-oriented leadership and to seeking agile, fair, and efficient procurement solutions.
